In Jesus Name...Amen

Funny title eh? I want to talk about baptizing today. Before you get scared I'm not a holy roller! Quite the opposite in fact. But I'm not here to discuss my religious views perse - but to discuss the topic of baptizing babies - in particular mine.

It's funny how everyone assumes when you have a baby there will be a baptism or a dedication of some sort. For us there hasn't been and I honestly think it confuses people - what do you mean there's no baptism? I had Casey's monogrammed Bible bought weeks ago!

So Ceej isn't baptized nor are there plans to baptize him at this point - why you ask? Because we haven't found a church we can call home. In full disclosure we haven't tried that hard yet but hear me out. So Chris and I are very liberal - we believe women should have the opportunity to lead Churches, we believe gay and lesbian couples should be able to be married at the very same altar we are able to be married at, we feel like no one should be discriminated against for anything when it comes to a church. It seems like we haven't found the perfect church that accepts everyone with open arms and until we do we won't have him baptized.

Does this mean we don't believe in God? Or that we are bad parents? Not at all - I pray all the time with and without Casey. Chris and I strive to be better people and we are very thankful and grateful for all of the blessings in our life. We want to raise Casey with God in his life bit that doesn't necessarily have to mean sitting in Church. We plan to pray with him, read Bibles stories to him (our current nightly routine is to read a few stories from his kids bible) and to teach him to be a better person.

So if you are in our boat with a new little one know it's ok to go against the norm and not take the plunge if you aren't comfortable with it. We hope that one day we will find that perfect church we can call home but until them - momma and daddy are playing preacher for our sweet boy.

XOXO
