We are (hopefully) headed home finally!

So I think I have a very happy and great update to share. We should be headed home today!! The docs have cleared him for discharge - we are just waiting on the in home health care nurse and supplies to all be set up for his 6pm bactrim dose tonight. They've been working on all of the insurance stuff since last week but as I'm sure everyone knows - these things never go fast or as planned and because of Chicago traffic we will have to be on the road early afternoon to be sure there's no risk we miss that 6pm dose. So it seems like there are so many variables that need to come together to make it happen - but we are keeping everything crossed! If it doesn't happen today it should be tomorrow after his am dose which runs from about 6-8.

He's doing so much better and the doctors are pleased at the way his back looks. He very likely has a spinal fluid leak - but the doctor is not overly concerned or even surprised by it based on the fact that he had surgery at the base of his spinal cord followed by a lumbar puncture less than a week later which has put a lot of trauma on a very delicate space. For now they have his abdomen wrapped with a dressing and an ace bandage and that seems to be helping a lot.

We were supposed to have had our follow up with the surgeon today where we would have been released to resume totally normal activities so that's a bit of a bummer - but we will soon have our family together under the same roof and hopefully Maxy moose is on the upswing now and I'm so grateful for that.

That being said he will come home with his picc line and receive intravenous antibiotics through it twice daily until at least sometime next week when we will have our follow up. At that point in time Dr. Bowman will make the determination if the picc line can come out and if he can come off of his restrictions - which we are of course hoping for. Until then - he's to remain horizontal pretty much 90% of the time only having up time to burp after eating and a little bit of tummy time here and there. I'm hoping once he's home with big brother and sister they will help keep him occupied and happy.

This has been a crazy ride so far and I'm truly hoping that we are nearing the end. And I will be forever grateful to the doctors and nurses here who have taken such great care of our little man. To our parents who have basically dropped everything for 2 weeks to take care of Ceej, Mimi, our animals and our house. To the rest of our family who has brought meals and treats and also picked up Ceej for park play dates and to take him to school. And to my girlfriends who have kept me sane with late night and early morning texts, funny Halloween stories, and offers to help in whatever way we need.

Of course we were split up for Halloween last night - one of my favorite holidays - and it was pretty hard. Particularly since it was M&M's first holiday. I know that they will never remember it but I will and I was just feeling weepy about it. So Daddy took Ceej and Mia trick or treating at home and Maxy and I strolled the halls here at the hospital and the nurses came into the rooms to reverse trick or treat. So we made the most of it and we will have a Halloween do over as soon as we are all home together.

So keep everything crossed for us and I'll keep everyone posted. Here are some of my favorite pics from the past couple of days!

Just a sweet little monster strolling the halls

Doc Ok'd some tummy time and this one could NOT be happier!

Auntie Kristin took Ceej and Savannah to the park!

Gosh he's such a cutie!

Maxy - my sweet little monster - and his favorite nurses. They are amazing

Since we couldn't be together for Halloween - this is the closest we could get! I dressed as a tired momma and Chris as super dad with 2 matching monsters and a choo choo :)

Cutest little monster feet ever!

XOXO
